Mistral AI has published the weights of Mistral Large 4, which it also calls Le Chonk. The model has 1 trillion total parameters and is natively multimodal. Mistral pitches it at agentic coding, defensive cybersecurity such as finding and patching vulnerabilities, and self-hosted enterprise deployments.

The Mistral Ecosystem Open-Weight licence is a modified MIT licence. It allows use, modification, fine-tuning and commercial use, but businesses offering the model as a hosted service need a separate commercial licence from Mistral. Through Mistral's API, the model costs $0.70 per million input tokens and $2.10 per million output tokens.

Mistral is cautious about the security side. In its own testing the model refused black-box attacks on live targets but could still give some uplift to real attacks, and the company says it is changing its guardrails in response. A specialised cybersecurity variant is limited to vetted partners under contract.

Some of the benchmark results are self-reported, and the full technical report is still to come.
